Course Description: “Advanced Wound Care Concepts: Next Level Principles for the Wound Certified Clinician”. This training program will prepare already certified wound specialists for a brand new advanced wound certification offered by NAWCO, focusing on the five major product categories that serve wound healing.
Advanced Wound Dressings
  1. Select the appropriate topical product depending on the wound description
  2. Categorize four types of advanced wound dressings
  3. List indications and contraindications of use for multiple advanced wound dressings
Debridement
  1. Recommend appropriate debridement method based on wound assessment 
  2. Determine the negative impacts of necrotic tissue on a wound
  3. Identify the most commonly used diagnosis codes for wound debridement
  4. Differentiate between selective and non-selective debridement options
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
  1. Explain the indications and contraindications for negative pressure wound therapy
  2. Describe the mechanism of action of negative pressure wound therapy
  3. Specify the appropriate application of negative pressure wound therapy treatment 
Cellular and/or Tissue Based Products / Skin Substitutes
  1. List four indications and contraindications for skin substitute products
  2. Distinguish between multiple classes of skin substitute products
  3. Describe the mechanisms of action of the different classes of skin substitute products
  4. Organize the steps of applying a skin substitute product
Adjunctive Therapies
  1. Discuss indications and contraindications for compression therapy
  2. Compare advantages and disadvantages of different offloading modalities
  3. Classify various levels and types of support surfaces
